  1. HANG ABOUT = loiter

  2. HANG AROUND = stay in one place or area
    1. The lions will hang around this area as long as there is food.
  3. HANG BACK = not move forward; remain
    1. In every group of tourists there are always a few who hang back.
  4. HANG IN THERE = not to give up; persevere
    1. Hang in there! Tomorrow things will be better. You'll see.
  5. HANG ON = wait / hold tightly
    1. Will you please hang on? What seems to be the rush? (= wait)
    2. Hang on! I'll get a rope to pull you up. (= hold tightly)
  6. HANG ONTO = keep, preserve
    1. Do you want to hang onto these baby pictures of yours?
  7. HANG OUT = spend time together socially
    1. Let's hang out this weekend if you're not busy.
  8. HANG TOGETHER = stay unified and undivided
    1. We must all hang together, or else we're going to lose the game.
  9. HANG UP = end a phone call / put something (clothing, picture etc.) on a hanger or peg
    1. I'll call you later. My mother told me I've got to hang up the phone now. (= end a phone call)
    2. You need to hang up your shirts now that the ironing is done. (= put something on a hanger or peg)
  10. HANG UP ON = end a phone call rudely
    1. I can't believe it. They just hung up on me!
  11. HANG WITH = spend time with
    1. I was hanging with some friends at the mall when you called earlier.
