Correlative Conjunctions

  1. Correlative conjunctions are used in pairs to join words or groups of words in a sentence:

Both + ... + and: indicates addition

  • She has family from both England and Scotland

Either + ... + or: means "one or the other"

  • You can either take it or leave it

Neither + ... + nor: means "not one and not the other"

  • Neither you nor I can help him

Not only + ... + but also: illustrates that more than one option is possible
