Countable nouns (form)

  1. Countable nouns are used with things that can be quantified
  • a book / two books
  • one teacher / six teachers
  1. Singular countable nouns cannot be used alone; they must have a determiner

  1. The plural of countable nouns is made by adding '-s', '-es' or '-ies'
  • friend / friends
  • class / classes (we add '-es' to nouns ending in '–ss', '-ch', '-s', '-sh' and '-x')
  • boy / boys (we add '-s' if a noun ends in a vowel + 'y')
  • country / countries (we add '-ies' f a noun ends in a consonant + 'y')
